Varsity Vocals is thrilled to announce the 3rd season of the International Championship of A Cappella Open! The Open is an all-access a cappella tournament that brings together singers of all ages – regardless of student status – to compete on an international stage.
We’re thrilled to see this competition grow each year and to bring new groups a place to showcase their talents. We hope that over the years, The Open will continue to encourage the growth of professional a cappella, much in the way the ICCA helped catapult competitive a cappella into the mainstream in Pitch Perfect and Sing It On, or how the development of the ICHSA contributed to the rapid growth of high school a cappella programs across the country.
APPLICATION: The Open application is available now, and due by May 1st, 2019. We only have one eligibility rule for The Open, and that’s keeping your group to no more than 18 members. APPLY NOW!.
We will announce accepted groups and show placements on our website on May 22nd.
In our third season, we anticipate holding qualifying rounds in certain cases (both in-person and virtually), and admitting groups directly to Finals in other cases. We will make this determination once we’ve had a chance to review all applications, so please be patient with us. We will play it by ear and grow and adapt each year according to interest, participation, and quality of applications.
The Open is heading back to Carnegie Hall for the Finals, which will take place on Saturday, October 5th. Tickets for Finals will go on sale July 15th, 2019. Once again, the winners of our 2019 ICCA and ICHSA tournaments will advance directly to The Open Finals, where they will face off against the regional champions of The Open tournament.
The highest scorer at Finals will be named the the Champion of The Open and will receive a $25,000 prize, which comes with no strings attached (a cappella pun intended!), but we hope you’ll use it to launch your professional career!
