WE’RE BACK!!! We at Varsity Vocals are thrilled to announce the 2nd season of the International Championship of A Cappella OPEN!
Carnegie Hall is BACK. The $25,000 cash prize is BACK. And now it’s time to bring back your favorite a cappella singers and form your own dream team to compete on this year’s #acaopen stage!
The Open is an all-access a cappella tournament that brings together singers of all ages, regardless of student status, to compete on an international stage. In its first season, The Open featured 70 groups from around the world and culminated in a sold-out Finals at New York City’s Carnegie Hall — and we expect even bigger things this summer, as our second season kicks off.
Once again, the winners of our 2018 ICCA and ICHSA tournaments will advance directly to The Open Finals, where they will face off against the regional champions from the remainder of The Open tournament.
We hope that over the years, The Open will continue to encourage the growth of professional a cappella, much in the way the ICCA helped catapult competitive a cappella into the mainstream in Pitch Perfect and Sing It On, or how the development of the ICHSA contributed to the rapid growth of high school a cappella programs across the country.
Now let’s get down to the details!
APPLICATION: The Open application is available now and is due April 1st, 2018. We only have one eligibility rule here at The Open, and that’s keeping your group to no more than 18 members. APPLY NOW.
We will announce accepted groups and show placements on April 15th on our website.
DATES*: Here’s what we’re thinking for semifinals. We may add or remove events based on where applications come from — so if you don’t see an event near you, please still apply as we may add events. And please note, these dates (except for Finals) are currently still tentative and subject to change.
- TBD – Northwest Semifinal near Seattle, WA
- June 23rd – Mid-Atlantic Semifinal near Washington, DC
- June 30th – Northeast Semifinal in New York, NY
- July 7th – Midwest Semifinal in Chicago, IL
- July 14th – Southwest Semifinal in Los Angeles, CA
- July 21st – New England Semifinal in Boston, MA
- September 22nd – Finals in New York, NY at Carnegie Hall
