Our 17th ICHSA season launches in January, and we can’t wait to see what our competitors will bring to the stage! This year, there are more than 2,800 performers in 185 groups from high schools across 26 states competing in our tournament. We are thrilled to see talent returning to ICHSA in such great numbers, and we are humbled to provide this experience for so many once again.
Eight regions will comprise this year’s ICHSA tournament: Great Lakes, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, South, Southwest, West, and Virtual. The Great Lakes, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, Northeast, South, and West regions will have quarterfinal rounds. The Southwest and Virtual regions will hold a semifinal only. In the Great Lakes, the top two groups from each quarterfinal will move on to the semifinal. In the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Northeast, South, and West, the top three groups from each quarterfinal will move on to the semifinal.
In order to be accessible and equitable given our pivot this year, in all regions with fewer than five quarterfinals (resulting in fewer than our maximum 10 groups at semifinals), there will also be a semifinal wildcard round, allowing for additional groups to advance to the semifinal. This applies to the Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast, South, and West Regions. The Southwest region will have a semifinal only. The Great Lakes region will not have a semifinal wild card round, as our five quarterfinals there will advance a total of 10 groups to semifinals.

Great Lakes: 5 Quarterfinals, top 2 advance to semifinals, top 2 to finals
Mid-Atlantic: 3 Quarterfinals, top 3 advance to semifinals, semifinal wildcard round, top 1 advances to semifinals. 1 semifinal round, top 1 group advances to finals.
Midwest: 3 Quarterfinals, top 3 advance to semifinals, semifinal wildcard round, top 1 advances to semifinals. 1 semifinal round, top 1 group advances to finals.
Northeast: 3 Quarterfinals, top 3 advance to semifinals, semifinal wildcard round, top 1 advances to semifinals. 1 semifinal round, top 1 group advances to finals.
South: 2 Quarterfinals, top 3 advance to semifinals, semifinal wildcard round, top 3 advances to semifinals. 1 semifinal round, top 1 group advances to finals.
West– 2 Quarterfinals, top 3 advance to semifinals, semifinal wildcard round, top 3 advances to semifinals. 1 semifinal round, top 1 group advances to finals.
Southwest– 1 semifinal. Top 1 advances to finals.
Virtual– 1 Semifinal, Top 2 advance to finals wildcard round.
Finals Wildcard: All 2nd and 3rd place groups from each semifinal and the top 2 placing groups from the virtual round will be able to compete in the finals wildcard round alongside the virtual semifinalist, where the top group will advance to the ICHSA Finals at The Town Hall in New York City!
Events will begin in mid-January and continue through late March. Tickets for most events go on sale on December 1. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for a reminder! Please remember that many events do sell out in advance, so we recommend ordering tickets in advance of the show.
Lastly, with the COVID-19 pandemic and extended application deadline, we have been doing our best navigating the varying policies and restrictions from venues and school district regulations across the country. As a result, you will notice that some regions don’t yet have dates listed as we continue to work with limited venue staff and garnering school board/venue approvals as an outside organization. Please bear with us as we work to finalize dates. In the event that a last minute cancellation does occur or we are unable to secure a venue, your assigned event will transition to a virtual round.

Any group that chooses to withdraw by December 15, 2021 will be refunded their full entry fee. Otherwise, we will assume you’ve accepted your invitation to compete at your assigned event.
