Please review the following rules and guidelines before applying.
Deadline
Applications are due by October 15 at 11:59 pm EST each year and may be submitted electronically only. A complete application includes your application form, application payment, and track submission.
Application Form
Please complete the BOCA/BOHSA APPLICATION FORM. This form requires payment of a $35 application fee with a credit card.
Album Submission
Your submission MUST be properly labeled. Label each track EXACTLY as follows: Track Title, Your Group Name, Your School Name, Album Name. (For example: Elastic Heart, The Nor’easters, Northeastern University, Rise.) Once you have labeled all tracks properly, place all the tracks into one folder. Label this folder EXACTLY as follows: Your Group Name, Your School Name. (For example: The Nor’easters, Northeastern University). Next, compress the folder into a .zip file, and upload that ONE zipped file to our Dropbox.
This is very important! We need every single album and individual track properly labeled, or we can easily lose track of whose music we are listening to. We also need you to upload just the ONE file, properly labeled; do not upload all your tracks individually! We will not consider tracks that are not submitted according to these guidelines.
Only tracks recorded on or after June 1 (18 months before the deadline to apply) will be considered. You may submit individual tracks and tracks that have not yet been commercially released.
Policies
Groups accepted to BOCA and BOHSA will be required to send us a full-resolution CD quality (16 bit 44.1 kHz minimum) WAV or AIFF file within three days of notification of acceptance. Please be prepared to provide that as early as October 20. If your file is not received in the required timeframe, your spot on the album may be given to another group. Therefore, please do not submit any tracks for consideration if you are not prepared to submit the full-resolution version immediately. When possible, please retain a copy of your original, unmastered mix from your mixing engineer. If your track is selected, this is the best version to submit to our mastering engineer so he can ensure that your track sounds the best it can on our album.
Tracks will be chosen by album founder Deke Sharon and Varsity Vocals Executive Director Amanda Newman. Factors for consideration include song selection, intonation, arrangement, balance, solo, and production quality.
